Music: Making 'Little Changes' with Frank Turner

If you’ve known me for a while, you know that my musical tastes are all over the place.

Some mornings I may get into some ‘70s McCartney or ELO. Other days, my wife — whose tastes are more cosmopolitan, perhaps, in a good way — may be playing Brubeck, and I’ll think, “OK, yeah, that’d do.” Or we could put on Run The Jewels 3 and let those guys tell us some stories.

But I always return to one or two artists per every few years or so. The comfort.

Last few years, that artist has been Frank Turner. For me, his music has been open, honest, simple and pure.

Today, I played his song “Little Changes”:

Giving up too easy when we could've tried a little bit harder
Standing to the side as the neighbourhood went to the dogs
We spend our energy getting angry instead of being kinder
Singing hymns of praise in a city given up on by the gods

So far from okay
Tongue-tied and afraid
The big things stay the same until we make

Little changes

You may have noticed I have been dormant for almost 3 months. I had high hopes that this space would allow me to get back to creativity.

I could blame the new job. I started in October, and it has been quite involved. But… there’s no reason why I can’t put up at least a small blog post … 3 times a week at least?

So, today I start making little changes. Because I’ve let myself down lately. And it’s time I changed that.
