SEO talk: That big topic (coronavirus)

During the last few months, we’ve been dealing with a dominant topic in our lives — coronavirus, or COVID.

And of course, if you wanted to let people know about your business or story, and it involved coronavirus, you’d likely make sure it’s in your page title.

But what happens when Coronavirus becomes the most searched term on Google this year?

Your item may become just part of the noise!

So the thinking is, what ELSE do you want people to find? It likely won’t be JUST about coronavirus, unless you are doing an overall history of it, perhaps.

No, it’s likely about something that is an offshoot — like safety (what’s the best social distancing? should I always wear a mask?) or food delivery, etc. So what you want to focus on is what other search terms should I use.

Should coronavirus be a part of your title or SERP? (That’s Search Engine Results Pages — it’s the “description” under your page title and it’s the second way Google finds your SEO.) I think so, but it doesn’t have to be as high up.

Also, what can you do to help give your post a boost? If you have a business, one idea — thanks to Ragan for this one — is to interview people who are using your business and how your business helped them.

What are your thoughts on this? How do you deal with big news?
